This program got its start after the tragic events of 9/11. CCAR writes after this programs completion:

"Would it be possible to capture the healing power of recover on video?" This was the question CCAR asked us after the tremendous healing experience of Recovery Walks! 2001, held just five days after the now infamous 9/11. On September 16, 2001, over 2000 people gathered at Bushnell Park in hartford and initially shared their confusion and grief over the tragedy. Yet, as the day progressed, the hope and resiliency of recovery surfaced and brought the walk experience into a dimension of quiet determination and community healing. We wondered if we could somehow portray this "healing power" on video... we now have the answer, "Yes!"

I just finished reviewing "The Healing Power of Recovery" and want to tell you that it is one of the most powerful products that has emerged in this new recovery advocacy movement. All of you did an incredible job pulling this together. Please pass along my warmest regards to Jim Mattingly whose skill and dedication on this project provide an example of service for all of us.

I would challenge those who doubt the existence of a new recovery advocacy movement to watch "The Healing Power of Recovery". Here is living proof of the transforming power of recovery and those who are dedicating their lives to convey that reality to this culture.

"The Healing Power of Recovery" should be shown in every addiction treatment center in the country. It is a deeply moving, personal invitation for membership in the culture of recovery. It is emotionally riveting. Here are the faces and voices of recovery stepping from the shadows to offer living proof of recovery's transformative powers. Here are the recovery advocates rising in communities across the country calling on recovering people to stand as a beacon of hope for individuals, families and communities who are still suffering. Some people were born to play a role in this new recovery advocacy movement. "The Healing Power of Recovery" is a call to become part of this movement."
